Basic Strategy in Limit Texas Holdem

Many less skilled players may underestimate a tactical approach they should apply at Limit Texas Holdem . A common mistake is to think that you can simply sit and call down the hands whenever you have pot odds, without paying too much attention to your opponents. Actually, this is how a majority of players act on low-limit tables at Limit Texas Holdem . Besides, very often intermediate players are lacking for discipline (tightness) and applied aggression, for instance, strong attack in the appropriate spots.

As a matter of fact, in practice the most successful players use an overall tight/aggressive style which has proved to be the most profitable, especially in intermediate/strong games.

These are some key advice for Limit Texas Holdem :

It is recommended to play only premium starting hands. In a regular game no more than 20-25% of the flops should be seen.

Don’t sit to play at tight-aggressive tables with low earnings and high volatility and avoid strong players because they have highly developed reading skills and can take your money easily. It’s better to search for loose games where at least 30% see the flop on average and play their hands too far.

When drawing, make sure to have pot odds. Only call a bet if the pot justifies the call.

You must be always objective concerning your strength in the hand. Form a habit of always foreseeing the holdings of your opponents and ensure to evaluate them then as more information is revealed in later rounds. A good player is always able to get under the skin of his opponents.

Try to identify and memorize the playing styles of your opponents. Issues you should take into account include: What kind of hands do they raise with? What hands do they re-raise with? How do they play pocket pairs? Do they call all the way with weak holdings? How do they play their draws? What kinds of hands do they call/raise with from early position? What type of hands do they check/raise with?

When there is a warranty, don’t just call, bet or raise. The structure of Limit Texas Holdem allows drawing hands, which might even bet into you. You should almost always bet/raise in case if you really know that you have the best hand. You do not want to give any free cards.

Kickers can be vitally important in Hold’em; that is why always hold a good kicker. You should have a good side card to your highest card. (Weak kickers make second-best hands, which prove valuable in the long run.)

When you are in late position, get ready to steal pots quickly. A possibility of taking the pot in last or late position might appear, if few players are in the pot and it has been checked around to you. Just do this if you see that the board won’t benefit anyone. But don’t forget to consider the types of players left in the pot.

Your playing style must not seem predictable. From time to time limp on “raising hands” and bet/raise on some “calling hands.” Do this both before and after the flop in order to mix your style up.

Folding in time may help you to save money. When you know you are done and the pot does not warrant a call, it is better not to draw.

Do not resort to bluffing very often. Especially if you are not quite sure that your opponents are not holding strong hands and/or are very weak when you try to bluff.
