Short-Buying Part 2
This is a continuation of the article which explores different aspects of short-buying. This part is aimed at revealing disadvantages of this action.
It is clear that most poker players have different skills and experience and they are playing at different levels and limits. That is why you may never have to buy in short in your play at all.
However, it is very important to have a correct vision of this phenomenon in poker. Once again, you must understand it very clearly: b uying in short has nothing in common with the buy-in limit of the table you are playing. It is all about the stacks of the other players. Usually, your opponents will all be around the maximum buy-in for the table.
In most cases buying in short is an outcome of playing on a short roll. If you can’t afford to buy in full, you shouldn’t be playing that limit.
Keep in mind that buying in short will likely to put you in the situation when you are forced to gamble, and it will not let you maximize your wins. Such conditions are very losing.
Of course, if you are sitting to play extra-aggressive poker, where the players are willing to put it all in pre-flop with any two cards, it will be very difficult to survive without short-buying.
This move is helpful at a table this aggressive especially for bankroll management. Playing between such aggressive players requires a considerably larger bankroll than if you were playing in a regular game at the same stakes. Short-buying can be effective in doubling your buy-in-to-total roll ratio.
In a perfect world you should be playing on a large enough roll to be able to afford to play all tables at a maximum buy. But in reality, almost all poker players are playing on a short roll.
By the way, nowadays there is a small amount of online tables with a full ring of max-buys. So, it becomes usual for many online players to buy in for the minimum.
Finally, the main rule should be repeated again and again - always play within your roll, choosing the tables where you can afford the full buy-in. If you can’t do that, it’s better to drop limits to one you can afford.
Remember, poker is considered to be a deep-stack game. Here the integrity has a great importance and is that thing to always keep in your mind and under attention.
